“It’s fun to be scared!” That is what a girl said, after she walked down a very dark street. The shadows from the trees and bushes made everything look different. When you are in the dark everything can look scary.

Some scary things are okay, like dark streets or big roller coasters. Other things can really make us afraid that are NOT okay.  Many times we cannot make these scary things go away.

Jesus knew things would come that would make us afraid. So, He made promises to help us. That is how much He really loves us! Here is one of His promises.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness.”
Isaiah 41:10

Jesus promised that when trouble and fearful things come we do NOT need to fear. We do not have to “be dismayed”. That means to feel like running away. Jesus CAN help. He WANTS to help all of us, even YOU!

God’s Promise Explained

“Fear thou not, for I am with thee,”

Remember, this is a promise from God. He will be with us. Our Bible is full of stories of scary things happening to God’s children.  From these stories we learn that God really is with people all the time.

“Be not dismayed; for I am thy God:”

The verse says we do not have to run away. Being afraid makes people want to run away. Some people do run away. They do not know that Jesus will help them. When we have Jesus as our Savior we do not need to run from scary things.
